Buoy Form
Buoy Form

Inspiration
I live by the sea, and keep fit by rowing in a traditional pilot gig with a crew of 6. We often pass large buoy forms on the water which are interesting sculptural shapes. I have developed this using ceramics and colour.

Size

Height: 800cm
Width: 70cm
Depth: 70cm

Outline of the creative process
Making each piece separately using slabs and coils of clay, building them up gradually by hand, and blending the form by drawing it in the air with the hands. When they are dry they have a biscuit firing and then can be glazed with coloured glazes. I do this spontaneously, without thinking or planning.
