Fruiting

Inspiration
This work builds on forms I developed and exhibited during a 10 week Artist Residency at The Leonora Carrington Museum in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
I am now planning to take these forms forward into a new body of work inspired by lichen. I am particularly interested in exploring the symbiotic relationship which exists between the fungi and the algae/cyanobacteria of which lichen is comprised. I am interested in thinking about symbiotic metaphors in relation to material such as clay to glaze, positive to negative, 2d to 3d.

Outline of the creative process
I will hand-build this piece in a lightly grogged stoneware clay. It will have an undulating surface along with cut out holes. I will glaze the work in a range of matt glazes created to my own recipe. It is designed to be hung on a wall.
